The Loxton Pioneer Playground is a significant playspace located in the heart of Loxton. The playground is a new community space designed for all ages and mobility. The playground is a community driven project which enabled the working group and Council to secure grants and raising significant funds from donations and materials donated for the project. Volunteer groups also assisted with the construction of the playground.
GREENHILL was engaged to design and document the playspace and worked in liaison with the working group to ensure the project was designed to meet their vision. The project consisted of a custom built 15m climbing structure that represented a steam boat and named after one of the first boats to reach the location of Loxton. The climbing structure has two stainless steel slides and a rope bridge. The playground provided a range of all access equipment including a carousel and an electronic game to cater for all mobility groups.
The site included a flying fox, multiple swings, a junior area, shelters, boat, BBQ facilities, seating and kick about spaces. A bike track for young riders to practice and learn the road rules was incorporated into the project.
The playground is a huge success for the town, the working group and Council due to its ability to cater for all generations and the amount of people that utilise the space.
